We are off! Salt Farmers epic adventure

So the 8th of August 2023 has come around very quickly. Erin and I are heading of to the USA, Canada and Europe to make contact with solar salt farmers across the globe to learn, share experiences and meet with people who have helped us on our journey.

We have a big program ahead of us. Covering a salt farmer in the remote San Juan Islands of Washington state on the Canadian border, a couple of salt farmers in Ireland and Jersey. Lastly we’ll be heading to Italy and specifically Trapani, Sicily. One of the most ancient salt making towns with a history of natural salt production stretching back more than 2500 years. There we’re meeting a family who have been farming sea salt for over 3 generations.

Thanks to our local Opito Bay/Matarangi community whilst we are away it’s business “almost” as usual on-line and for retail partners. If things take an extra day to process then please bear with us. I spent nearly 10 years living and working in UK/Europe so it will also be great to catch up with some old friends, Erin’s family and some new acquaintances from the Kiwi Food and Beverage world in London and Dublin.

One of the highlights of our trip is definitely going to be Sicily. But on the way there we are spending time talking food and getting inspiration for products in Tuscany. Florence and Bologna are on the list.

So all that’s left is to pack bags and get on that plane. See you in Vancouver!
